Dr. Simon's treatment has been a game-changer for me. Thanks to his skill and compassion, I am finally free from the debilitating pain of chronic headaches. I am eternally grateful.

Excellent service, receptionist so helpful kind and understanding, doctor called me back at expected time and script sent to my designated pharmacy immediately. At this stage when doctor surgeries are telling us we have to wait days for an appointment when seriously sick but not an emergency to go to A&E this service is an absolute lifesaver. Highly recommend for service , compassion and professionalism. Thankyou again

Frequently Asked Questions

Please read the FAQs carefully to ensure this service is suitable for you. They contain important information about eligibility, treatment options, and when to seek alternative care.

  • Our prescription service costs €25

  • This service is available to patients anywhere in Republic of Ireland.

  • Yes - this service is based on the same patient-doctor confidentiality that you would expect in a face-to-face consultation.

  • If you’re not entirely sure about your condition and have not had a previous prescription, it is recommended that you first chat with our doctor using either our Video Consultation or Phone consultation services first.

  • Cystitis is an inflammation or infection of the bladder, often caused by bacteria entering the urinary tract. It leads to uncomfortable symptoms such as a burning sensation while urinating, frequent urges to go to the bathroom, and lower abdominal pain. This condition is common, especially among women, and is usually treatable with a short course of antibiotics. At GP24.ie, we provide fast and convenient online prescription services to help you manage cystitis quickly and effectively.

  • Cystitis is usually caused by bacteria, most commonly E. coli, entering the bladder through the urethra and causing infection. Women are more prone to cystitis than men because their urethra is shorter and located closer to the back passage, making it easier for bacteria from faeces to reach the bladder. Factors like sexual activity, delaying urination, or using certain hygiene products can also increase the risk. At GP24.ie, we offer quick online prescriptions to help you treat cystitis effectively and get relief fast.

  • Common signs of cystitis include a painful or burning sensation when urinating, an urgent and frequent need to use the bathroom—even during the night—and discomfort or pain in the lower abdomen. You might also notice changes in your urine, such as it appearing dark, cloudy, or having a strong odor. In some cases, there can be blood in the urine or flu-like symptoms such as fever. If you experience any of these symptoms, GP24.ie offers fast and easy online consultations to get you the treatment you need.

  • If suitable, cystitis is typically treated with a short course of antibiotics. Our doctors can prescribe a targeted antibiotic from the nitrofuran group, which is commonly used to treat bladder infections. Most patients begin to feel relief within 24 hours of starting treatment.

  • You may be eligible to request cystitis treatment through GP24.ie if you:

    • Are over 18 years of age

    • Have been previously diagnosed with cystitis by a healthcare professional

    • Need a repeat prescription for commonly prescribed cystitis medication

    • Do not suffer from rigor, backpain, frank haematuria or vomiting.

  • Most people tolerate cystitis antibiotics well, but like all medications, side effects can occasionally occur. The most commonly reported ones include diarrhoea, nausea or vomiting, dizziness, reduced appetite, and headaches. You might also notice your urine turning a dark yellow or brown colour— this is nothing to worry about and will return to normal once the medication is finished.

Less common side effects are possible, so it's important to read the patient information leaflet that comes with your medication for a full list. If you’re concerned about any potential side effects related to this medication, stop taking it and speak to your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

  • Stop taking the medication and seek medical advice immediately. You can also contact us for follow-up support or guidance from one of our GPs.

  • Complete an Online Questionnaire: Fill out a secure, confidential medical assessment form detailing your symptoms and health history

Medical Review: An Irish-registered doctor will review your information to determine if treatment is appropriate for you

Prescription Issuance: If suitable, a prescription will be sent directly to your chosen Irish pharmacy via secure Healthmail

  • Yes. To ensure your safety, you’ll need to complete a confidential health questionnaire, which will be reviewed by a Doctor before any prescription is issued.

Your medical information is reviewed only by Irish Medical Council Registered Doctors and is handled in line with GDPR and Irish data protection laws.

  • Your prescription will be sent electronically via the Healthmail system to the Irish pharmacy of your choice - you can nominate any pharmacy in Ireland to receive your prescription

  • Once your medical questionnaire is submitted, prescriptions are typically issued within 24 hours.

(Please note this may vary on weekends)

  • Yes. If you're eligible and your condition is well-controlled, you can request a repeat prescription for your usual cystitis medication via GP24.ie. You’ll need to complete a short medical questionnaire which will be reviewed by one of our GPs. If clinically appropriate, your prescription will be sent directly to your preferred pharmacy.
